The Chrysalis Age: A Handbook for Spiritual and Global Transformation in the New Millennium
From
2001-2002 I took a year and a half sabbatical to write a non-fiction book
exploring the relationship between spirituality and globalization. I called the
book The Chrysalis Age.
Although never published, there are excerpts
here and the full manuscript can be downloaded as a PDF. You can also
find a few essays on issues of spirituality and globalization in this section.
The Chrysalis Age is an attempt to integrate collective and individual
growth; to bridge the gap between the many facets of social and cultural change
embodied by the forces of globalization and the profoundly transformative
energies of a spiritual practice rooted in the world's wisdom traditions.
Firstly, it investigates the need for a more encompassing worldview that is
capable of understanding the interconnectedness of the world. Given this new
perspective, the book then calls for a more complete ethics, one rooted not in
religious dogma or philosophical posturing, but in a direct apprehension of the
integral nature of the universe. Based upon these two things, a more complete
worldview and deeper ethics, the book goes on to explore how we can create a
holistic and spiritual vision of the future, both collectively and
individually. Suggestions for how we can change the world socially, culturally,
environmentally, politically, and economically are fully outlined and explored.
The book also presents tools for personal and spiritual transformation. These
tools are designed to foster an expansion of the reader's perspective through
meditations and contemplations aimed at both psychological and spiritual
development.
